First responders from the Milford Fire Department were dispatched to 51 Broadway at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 20, where there was a report of a fire, police said. The fire reportedly broke out in one of the apartment's kitchens.
Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke coming from the second floor of a three-story and went to work. The Fire Department said that flames were knocked down in less than an hour and it was deemed “under control” shortly after noon.
No injuries were reported and the building was safely evacuated. The Milford Police Department temporarily closed Broadway between Stowe Avenue and Park Lane as firefighters checked the building for potential hot spots or flare-ups. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
